Rival Teams (the opponents)

Teams are the clubs on the other bench — the Golfers, the Officials, parody NHL-style names, cultists, prisoners, and other joke squads the campaign throws at you. Official marketing loves calling out absurd rivals; Miraheze keeps a long Teams list including names such as:

Calaveras, Crusaders, Cup Cultists, Disco, Golfers, Greasy Lettuce, Hockey FC, Meatballs, Mountaineers, Princess, Prisoners, Shooting Stars, Spartans, Team Canada, The Officials, Top Cheese, Tycoons… plus a longer NHL-parody set (Anaheim Pucks and friends).

That list is a community snapshot. Whether every entry still appears unchanged after 1.0 is Unverified — use it as a recognition aid, not a patch-proof Pokédex.

Playable Squads (your ruleset)

Squads are unlockable playstyles for your run — about 19 called out around 1.0 launch coverage. Themes discussed in store/community writing include GM, Violence, Retro / 16-Bit, Slapshot, Modern and more. A hotfix note summarized by community writers mentioned expanding how many Squads you can start with (e.g., opening set of six) — confirm in your live build.

Squads can rewrite foul rules, poke behavior, era presentation and other systems. That is why How to Poke Check warns that Modern may feel different from default auto-poke.

Why the mix-up hurts searches

• "Best team" guides might mean best Squad for a climb.
• "Team list" guides usually mean rival Teams.
• Achievement text like From Tape to Tape (win with every character) is yet another axis — skaters/characters, not Clubs.

How to learn Teams without a spoiler sheet

1. Play Campaign on a comfortable difficulty and note gimmicks (refs that cheat, golfers who… golf).
2. Skim Miraheze Teams only when you need a name.
3. Re-check after major patches — joke teams are easy rename targets.

Using rival Teams as teachers

When Golfers or Officials warp the rules, write one line: what broke, what scored anyway. That turns joke matchups into a personal scout notebook. Community lists help you name the feeling later; they are not required reading before Act 1.

Squad experiments belong on easier difficulties. Unlock a wild Squad, play Practice for five minutes, then take it into Campaign. If poke or offside rules feel alien, re-open Controls immediately.
